Description: The Orphan Care Project looks after orphans in one of the poorest and most remote counties in China. Average life expectancy in this area is only in the 40s, and floods, landslides, farm accidents, 3 wheel cart accidents, falling rocks, disease, as well as poor nutrition in combination with hard work have orphaned over 100 children. While neighbors and relatives try to help, their efforts are hampered by their own poverty as most make their living as subsistence farmers. The Orphan Care Project seeks to place orphans in permanent foster homes and to ensure that they receive a basic education. Because foster families themselves often cannot afford to send their own children to school, the program equally supports natural and foster kids.
